At Gentry we use an open architecture platform where we recommend the best-in-class money managers based on our extensive review process. We believe in the overriding importance of an academic-based, time-tested strategic allocation that is globally diversified in multiple asset classes. Gentry divides the portfolios into four distinct asset classes: Fixed Income, Global Core Equity, Alternative Investments, and Specialty Equity. Each asset class has a distinct purpose in the make-up of the overall portfolio.
The combination of the four asset classes creates a diversified portfolio that is geared to produce consistent, attractive, long-term results. Gentry fixed income and global core equity are invested in active investments (mutual funds, separately managed accounts) as well as passive investments (index funds and ETFs). Specialty equity are asset classes that have been hit with bad news, which have not kept up with the current general rise in markets, or which have declined with the general market in a manner that defies logic. The alternative investment class intent is to produce a return pattern that is different from both stocks and bonds. The impact of adding this asset class to a mix of stocks and bonds results in a general reduction of overall portfolio volatility and has the possibility to increase the overall return on the portfolio.
